Earthquakes happen every day around the world, but that does not mean a devastating earthquake is guaranteed to occur in 2026 or 2027. Scientists can identify areas with higher long-term earthquake risk, but they cannot accurately predict the exact date, location and magnitude of a future major earthquake. The Pacific Ring of Fire remains one of the world's most active earthquake zones, while modern early-warning systems, stronger buildings and public preparedness can significantly reduce the damage.
